International conference with a clear conclusion! ABAF 2011

Press news

Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Brno University of Technology in cooperation with the U.S. scientific organizations, The Electrochemical Society held in the past on 12 International Conference on Advanced Batteries, Accumulators and Fuel Cells. The conference was held from 11 – 14 September 2011 at the headquarters of the Rectorate BUT.

Institute of Electrical Technology Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Brno University of Technology is engaged for more than 40 years of research and development of materials and other components for electrochemical power sources. Within this research and educational activities, a number of interesting ideas and technical solutions, was obtained much valuable experience in which a very large proportion ja researchers and students. It is logical that the said constitution was established more than thirty years ago the idea to hold regular annual meetings of experts focused on research, development and use of batteries of various types and uses. Originally it was a meeting of Czechoslovak experts since 1999 and founded a series of international conferences under the name Advanced Batteries and Accumulators. In recent years the content of the conference extended the area of electrochemical fuel cells (Fuel Cells) and abbreviation of the conference was changed to ABAF.

The basis of each conference are lectures and graphical outputs in the form of posters. Prominent world scientists are encouraged to present main lectures (key lecture), which is provide an overview of selected areas, and they then follow lectures of the conference participants. This is especially valuable for young authors, who are their contributions to present the results of research work. An important component of the conference are personal contacts, in which the new partnership is being established, further problems are solved by existing projects. These personal contacts are other ways irreplaceable, nor the possibility of using the Internet today are not as effective. Guarantors of the conference since its inception manages expert group led by Prof. **. Ing. Vondrák George, MD. and Doc. Ing. Mary Sedlaříkové, MD **.

The main theme of this year's conference was ABAF material research materials necessary for the development of lithium-ion batteries, especially with a view to increasing safety in their different ways of operation. Other topics of the conference was the area of gel polymer electrolytes, research on new materials in conventional lead-acid and Ni-Cd batteries, as well as materials for electrochemical fuel cells.

The great advantage of the conference is to publish it through the new results. The output will be mostly full-text file called * Proceeding of the Meeting ABAF-12 , which will be placed on a publicly accessible web site * *. The partner of this conference is an American by The Electrochemical Society. Advanced publication will be sent based on the periodical called * Transactions of the Electrochemical Society, * and posts with the highest level of expertise will be published in a journal published by the company. These magazines ( Journal of the Electrochemical Society and Electrochemical and Solid-State Letters *) are included in the relevant international bases as impacted, indicating their ratings on a global scale.

The satisfaction with the action speaks ** Doc. Sedlaříková **: * „Given the current austerity measures in companies and universities, the participation of sponsors and participating researchers surprisingly good. The conference has fulfilled its mission “*.

The conference was attended by nearly 90 experts from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, USA, Argentina, Austria, Germany, Italy and Bulgaria. The actual negotiations took place in a beautifully restored auditorium BUT Rector. The whole conference was accompanied by a relaxed atmosphere and interesting program. * "On Monday a group dinner, on Tuesday we visited the Colonnade in Valtice Valtice Castle cellar and cellar associated with the dinner. On Wednesday we visited the new complex of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication, and laboratories of the Institute of Electrotechnology. The faculty was partially provided by the transport of electric vehicles, "added * ** Doc. Mary Sedlaříková **.

The benefits of the conference was also a professional meeting staff UETE FIT to continue cooperation with the Institute INIFTA (University of La Plata, Argentina). We managed to clarify the possible cooperation with universities in Padua, in Palermo and the University of Illinois (USA). In addition, the conference discussed trilateral cooperation between UETE FIT BUT, by Bochemie as Bohumín and the Institute of Electrochemistry and Bulgaria.

Great importance played participation of prominent personalities from the professional community. They were especially Professor Peter Vanýsek from North Western University, USA, Professor Vito Di Noto, of the University of Padua, Ferrara, Dr. Germano of the University of Palermo and Professor Arnaldo Visintin acting at the University of La Plata. The main theme calls and presentations were experts in particular: * New directions in the development of lithium batteries, including improving their safety and their use in electric vehicles * – this topic is especially suitable for electric vehicles produced and developed the land and FIT BUT. And what conclusions the conference participants diverged? * "The meetings of this type is not common habit of scheduling any final declaration. All participants, however, positively assessed the developments in the field that will lead to economic exploitation of new knowledge and also a good conference with the organization that is looking forward to next year, the accompanying program to the most appreciated visit South Moravia and moved into new headquarters of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication BUT – Technical 10, partly by means of electric vehicles, "* adds with a smile ** prof. Vondrak **.

No similar event to do without resources and moral support from sponsors. At this point, the organizing committee would like to thank the management and leadership FIT VUT Brno for technical support and also of The Electrochemical Society, based in Pennington, USA. Material support of our sponsors also provide the commercial and manufacturing plants, mainly as Bohumín Bochemie, H-Test Ltd., ECOM Ltd. and ChromSpec Ltd. We also thank media partners – ALL FOR POWER Brno Business, MEP – Info entrepreneurs Third Hand, Technology and Market and others. The project of the European Union and the Ministry of Education – OPVK project – Support for human resources and knowledge transfer in terms of international co-operation with research teams in the conference managed to invite selected experts from around the world.

  • "We believe that we meet next year with even more visit this important event, it is always nice to meet colleagues and podiskutovat about new trends. Generally we assume that we meet the next conference in August 2012. Detailed determination will be possible only in accordance with the calendar of other scientific organizations, with the term fair in Brno, and start teaching at universities. The program will therefore plan until later and we expect further expansion of filling conference ABAF-13 "*, ** closes the doc. Sedlaříková **.

** ** For information about faculty: The first electrical disciplines were the first technical university BUT already in 1905. Since 1959, when it was founded as an independent faculty of energy, which later transformed into the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, has successfully completed engineering studies at our faculty of over 23 000 graduates. In 2001 the present name of the faculty – Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Technology (FIT), and a year later gained accreditation of new modern courses conceived in a structured study. The faculty has more than 4,400 students in bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs. Studying at the faculty is focused on a wide range of scientific areas: control technology and robotics, biomedical engineering, power engineering and electronics, electrotechnology and electronics, microelectronics, Radioelectronics and Teleinformatics.
