After more than five years of preparatory work, officially took over on Monday 7 2nd 2011 Rector, VSB-TU Ostrava, prof. Ing. ** He fulfilled the dream of so many teachers, who had built the Technical University in Ostrava, the new study courses reflecting the needs of modern industry in the sectors of electrical engineering and computer science with a vision that one day, Ostrava transforms from steel heart of the republic to the center, which will be a number of new firms, the changing nature of the city and the region into the modern guidelines for information and communication technology and electrical engineering .**

VSB-TUO completed a 160-year tradition of technological development in higher education. It represents today a catchment technical college graduates, which provide education for 15% of the Czech industry – especially in the Moravian region and adjacent regions, graduates from the Technical University of Ostrava, however, also find application in the Czech Republic and abroad. The restructuring of the Moravia-Silesia region in 1989 extended the Technical College of the number of its faculties – the establishment of new faculties (Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Safety Engineering) VSB-TUO respond to the needs of the region, which was needed to transform the traditional center of mining, metallurgy and heavy engineering in the context of the decline of these sectors towards modern technology. Electrical Engineering and Computer Science among the sectors that are rapidly developing as well as the sectors in which new knowledge, products and infrastructure in the form of production management, information and communication systems become obsolete very quickly. Origin and Structure of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science reacts to this fact. Characteristic of the faculty is a large number of prospective students and faculty in both the electronic and, especially in information and communication technologies. Graduates of our university experts to cover the needs of northern Moravia and Silesia, and are used in the whole country and abroad. Currently studying at the faculty of more than 3,500 students

** Reasons to build a new building FEI **

Lack of space and spread to sixteen buildings became a limiting factor in further development of the FEI – the lack of space does not increase the capacity of the existing accredited degree programs or expansion of teaching programs on the new directions that correspond to the evolution of technology and the needs of employers in this industry segment. All existing facilities, which is available on the FEI are used to teach students, whose numbers since the founding faculty in 1991, stood up more than fourfold. The current situation does not create a special laboratory work, which would develop teaching directly linked to research. Science is taking the faculty, which works closely with both industrial partners and with leading research institutes worldwide. The history of the project construction of a new Science Building Management of the Technical University of Ostrava decided in 2006 to build a new Science building. With financial support from the state budget, the budget and budget MMO MSK in 2006–2009 were carried out all the preparatory activities – from buying the necessary land through the preparation of complete design documentation, the completion of all formalities and the necessary permits to start construction. In 2009, the management of the Technical University of Ostrava, the use of financial resources provided by the European Union under the Operational Programme Research and Development for Innovation and was prepared to request funding for construction of new buildings of the Science of the Operational Programme. After more than a year-long evaluation process was now the Technical University of Ostrava Department of Education, Youth and Sport allocated decisions to award grants for construction of a new Science building.

** The parameters of the project to construct a new building FEI ** The total cost of implementation of this project are currently EUR 1 billion and 45 million CZK. Of this sum, more than CZK 743 million obtained from the fourth funding priority axes of Research and Development for Innovation (85 percent of eligible costs, therefore we will reimburse the funds of the European Union). This amount will go within the Technical University of Ostrava, Ostrava-Poruba the end of 2012 built a modern, high-tech equipped multifunctional building, which finds the optimal background for teaching a research 3300 students and 200 staff of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Modern resort Technical University of Ostrava, which already provides students and employees of the ideal conditions for study, work or sports, so grow a further 18,800 meters square, where they study, lecture and laboratory for teaching and research the latest trends in information and communication technology and electrical engineering. Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is the first time in his twenty-year history, now wait for the infrastructure for the number of students, staff and alumni. Hundreds of graduates of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, who have successfully graduated from the faculty, have contributed significantly to the transformation of the industrial profile of the region's profes­sional work in the newly created and transformed enterprises producing goods and services with high added value of clean raw materials and energy-intensive environment of the region. The timing of construction of new buildings is consistent with the development of new regional research institutes and centers of excellence for research, where the number of graduates equipped with the new faculty should find a place in the ranks of scientists and researchers.
